Rescue Program:
The rescue of abandoned, abused or neglected horses initiated the foundation of Horse Creek Equestrian Center Inc's Program. Our dedication to the humane treatment of equine has led us to seek out new ways to communicate with horses. Each rescued horse is processed in quarantine, where an initial evaluation determines their individual needs which may include veterinary services, dentistry, and hoof care. Assessment of injuries, nutritional needs, current vaccines and cog gins are just some of the first steps to the rescue and rehabilitation of an abandoned, abused and or neglected horse. After the quarantine period if over we then provide the proper diet, exercise, therapy and training on a daily basis. Retraining horses with new communications skills is an important aspect of our safety policy; which insures each and every child a fun, happy and safe environment to experience the thrill of horses and riding here at Horse Creek Equestrian Center. Our goal is to make sure that the proper health is restored and maintained while allowing children to gain knowledge and skills resulting from personal involvement.
Adoption Program:
Some of the equine rescued here at Horse Creek are available for adoption. Many may never be ridden again and are only suitable as a companion, while others will remain here in our retirement program. It is important to find the right home for the right horse. We screen each and every person thoroughly threw a questionnaire to gain insight on the amount of knowledge they have, the shelter they can provide, pastures available, if they have a veterinarian, a furrier, ect. We try to match temperament, talents, and physical capabilities while placing each horse in a suitable home. There is a unique bond that forms between horse and people, especially children which is a rewarding transition and we enjoy educating each person that wishes to adopt. The importance of maintaining proper healthy conditions at their own home is a crucial part of our adoption program. Application forms are available on site. Our goal is to bridge the gap between horse and human.
Future Goals:
We have two future goals: one is to offer clinics and seminars in natural horsemanship. The topics of information will include education in selecting the right horse, equine nutrition, leadership and respect, safety in handling a horse, mechanics of a horse, ground work, and preparation for the first ride. The importance of proper communication skills is vital to the basic care of equine. Our hope is to educate enough people that in time fewer horses will need to be rescued. Our second goal is to develop effective therapeutic programs for children and adults to assist individuals with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities, the future of horsemanship will come from our youth.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to prevent equine abuse by providing educational techniques in natural horse awareness. We rescue, retrain, retire or rehabilitate equine to preserve and enhance their quality of life. Our future goal is to work with communities assessing needs and abilities of children with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities in order to develop effective therapeutic programs of instruction in natural horsemanship.
